SILVER CITY – The two newest golfers on the men’s golf team continued their strong summer play over the weekend as they both shot impressive scores in tournament play. Rising junior Adam Samnegård shot rounds of 70-64 (-6) to take sixth place in the Ligma (Professional) Tour’s event at the par 70 Köpings GC in Sweden. Freshman Arnav Arkanth shot even par (73-71) in windy conditions to take home the gold at Aspley Guise and Woburn Sands Championship.
Both players have had a solid summer of golf in preparation for their arrival in Silver City next month.
The Ligma event was Samnegård’s second pro event of the summer and his second top 10 playing with pros. He’s slated to play in another event over the weekend.
Arkanath won the championship at Aslpley Guise, a stunning golf course in England. Last month, he was extremely sharp in winning his final High School Championship with a 68, and netted a top-8 for his County team against older amateurs with rounds of 75-73-72.
Samnegård was a top performer for GCCC and has made great strides, despite limited action in the Jawhawk Conference. He led the Broncos to the NJCAA Championship where they finished a school record fourth place while he finished T14 to nail a spot as a NJCAA All-American.
Citing a better mental game as he grows in maturity, Samnegård is quick to give credit to the GCCC coaching staff. “My attitude out on the course has been amazing and I don’t know how to thank my previous coaches; Phil Terpstra, Jason Hase and Zac Miller. They have pushed me so much these two years and my mental game has changed a lot.” Hase was the former PGA Professional at Silver City GC in the late 1990s.
Both players are expect to arrive on campus in mid-August.
